Nestled Among Rolling Hills In The Heart Of Central Oklahoma

Founded after the 1891 Land Run, Chandler grew
quickly as one of Oklahoma's oil boomtowns. It was named to honor George Chandler, the first assistant secretary of the interior. At the time of the Land Run,
all Oklahoma counties were identified by a letter.
The residents of each county later voted on a name.

Our county was known as "County A." In
1892 County A went to the polls to choose a name. The 3 selections were Springer,
Lincoln, and Sauk and Fox.

The results of that election provided an eloquent answer to the age-old question "What's in a name?"
